Description of Bairro da Estrela
Among the best neighborhoods in Lisbon, with large houses, palaces and mansions carefully preserved, this is a quiet and important area. Lapa itself is known as the neighborhood of embassies. It is one of the most pleasant neighborhoods in Lisbon, with large and perfectly preserved old houses, many of them former palaces and mansions. The imposing Basílica da Estrela marks the meeting point for many groups, right in front of Jardim da Estrela, where older people spend the afternoon playing cards and children have fun in the playground. This Garden at the top is the only flat point, and the whole neighborhood unfolds downwards, on one of Lisbon's many hills. As in other parts of the city, many of the rooms have breathtaking views. You can see the Tagus River and the 25 de Abril Bridge in the distance.
The center of political life in Portugal is in São Bento, in the Assembly of the Republic. From there comes the name of this neighbourhood, which unfolds around a street, Rua de São Bento, which runs from the Palácio de São Bento to Largo do Rato.
